Microneedling with PRP

If the signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles or sun damage, hold you back from loving your skin, nurse Zayra can help you regain your confidence. Micro-needling is a popular treatment, and however, it can drastically enhance the results when used with PRP or platelet-rich plasma. One of the main reasons we harvest PRP is that platelets in the human body contain several active proteins known as growth factors and cytokines, which are known to boost tissue repair, speeding up the rejuvenation process.

Candidates

Micro-needling generally sits well with several patients, with some exceptions. An ideal candidate for micro-needling with PRP would be:

  • Adults who may be concerned regarding the appearance or texture of their skin
  • Individuals who are looking for a fix for their acne scars, loose skin, or wrinkles
  • Women who are not pregnant
  • Individuals who have not undergone skin radiation within the past year
  • Individuals who have realistic expectations

What to Expect

Zayra is one of the best aestheticians out there, not just because of her vast knowledge and profound expertise but because she genuinely cares for her patients. She highly recommends patients come in for a pre-treatment consultation, during which she reviews their medical history, assesses their skin condition, and determines whether or not they’d benefit from this procedure. If you seem to have any fears looming around you, she’s quick to debunk myths and provide accurate and up-to-date knowledge regarding the process.

Once satisfied with the treatment plan, she’ll numb your facial skin using a local topical anesthetic to ensure you’re comfortable throughout the procedure. A sample of your blood will be collected using a sterile FDA-approved system and collector, which is then treated with an anticoagulant to prevent the formation of clots. While the blood sample is spinning in the centrifuge, the platelets separate from the white blood cells and plasma. All the equipment used is sterile, and all procedures are followed to the highest degree of care and professionalism to prevent disease transmission.

Once the platelets separate, the rest of the treatment is pretty straightforward. Zayra will begin by thoroughly cleansing your skin before the procedure. Then the micro-needling pen will create micro-injuries to the skin, through which PRP retrieved from your blood will be injected. Using your platelets stimulates and enhances your body’s healing processes with additional collagen, promoting increased cell regrowth, skin regeneration, and hair growth. The treatment duration depends upon treatment location; the average treatment is around 60 minutes.

Recovery

The good thing about minimally invasive, non-surgical methods such as micro-needling with PRP is that there’s no downtime, which means you don’t have to put your life on hold! However, Zayra advises her patients to avoid strenuous activities or exercise until any visible side effects subside.

These may include:

  • Mild swelling
  • Bruising
  • Mild itchiness
  • Tenderness
  • Redness
  • Dryness

Rest assured that these symptoms are typical and will take around a couple of days to resolve. Stay hydrated to promote the healing process. You may use cold compresses or ice packs gently on the treated areas. Gently wash the treated areas with cool water and a gentle cleanser and pat dry for 5-7 days. Anti-inflammatory medications and painkillers such as aspirin are discouraged.

Results / Longevity

You may be surprised to learn that the benefits of micro-needling with PRP begin almost immediately! Soon after the micro-injuries, your body’s natural healing and rejuvenation response kicks in and gets to work. It may take around 3 to 4 weeks to see visible improvements; however, this time frame largely depends on your skin condition and desired outcome.

These results can last you anywhere between 12 to 18 months. However, this varies from patient to patient, age, skin condition, and the number of treatments they’ve undergone. Nurse Zayra firmly believes in consistency, which is why she may recommend you to experience a few more treatments spaced apart to achieve your desired results, especially if you suffer from extensive hyperpigmentation or deep acne scars.
